Take a coJleetion of gays and lesbians and form a club. What you have is
disunity. That often is the case with such clubs. Not with Front Runners
NY.

We have a sound constitution, a wide variety of committees and a host of
trophies in our respective "closets".
The top of our bylaws spells out what we are all about: to provide encouragement and support to lesbians and gay men who are interested in
running. That includes persons interested in running for social reasons
as well as those who have an interest in competition.
Our fun runs take us around the city. We have visjted Prospect Park,
Central Park, the upper East Side and the upper West Side. We have
travelled the pathways of the lower East Side and the gay haven in the
lower West Side.
And we have also competed. Last Sunday 13 of our members competed in the
eleventh New York City Marathon. Most dipped under the "magic" four hour
mark with an average of 3:45. That's not bad for a bunch or runners, most
of whom ht:Jd not raced before joining the club. (The straights had better
watch out)
Your presj.dent spent more time on the road, over the past year, then he
did in the Big Apple. (Maybe that's why his friends don't stick around!)
But Veep Bob Dubie did a fantastic job of running the day to day show.
Recently, with Bob's new apartment needing a total remodeling, Guy
Zelenak has taken over the major administrative work.
Kevin zealouslu produced the schedule and Michael popped out the newsletter. In addition, each month our fun runs are listed with the Gay
Media Service.
Our treasurer Ron did "sterling" work in keeping us in the black. We
have stationery, t-shirts, a growing circle (now up to 56 paying members)
and an upcoming election.
I will resign (my friends welcome this) because I feel the chief officer
of the club should be around much more than my work allows.
We also have slightly reorganized the club. This will take the form of
splitting it into fun and competitive sections. No, this doesn't mean
no more fun runs. Rather we have to expand that aspect of our togetherness. (More campy brunches, that's what I want.)
Also, we now have the second-place finisher and the first over-39 finisher in the first national Gay Run.
All in all not a bad beginning. Join us in the next elections, Nov. 19,
at Steve's place. (He did a 3:14 in NY, knocking 14 minutes off his first
marathon, on Long Island, last May. Congrats.) Address: 622 Greenwich
Street, 3D, 8pm.
