AIDS FUND RUN
Saturday, April 30, 1983, 10:00 a.m.
Sponsored by Front Runners NY
Directions to the Runner:
On Saturday, April 30, 1983, Front
Runners NY is sponsoring a benefit "Aids Fund Run" to raise
money for Gay Men"s Health Crisis, Inc., which provides funds
for AIDS research and support services for AIDS victims. Each
runner is asked to get as many sponsors as possible to pledge a
specific amount of money per mile run.
The distance run during
the Fund Run multiplied by the pledged amount per mile will
determine each person"s donation.
Of course, the more people
you sign up as sponsors and the more miles you run, the larger
the donation.
You can ask friends, relatives, co-workers, and
even yourself to pledge.

The Fund Run will start in Central Park at 10:00 a.m. from the
Park Drive opposite Tavern on the Green, 67th Street and Central
Park West.
The distance you run is optional, but, obviously,
the more the better.
There is no minimum or maximum mileage or
time, so the Fund Run is open to all--from beginners to marathon
trainers.
The runners and the spectators will picnic after the
run in the Sheep Meadow, so bring something to eat. All bags
will be watched by a Front Runners NY member.
You are responsible for collecting all of your pledges after the
run.
Checks should be made payable to GMHC, Inc., and are tax
deductible.
Monies collected should be mailed to Front Runners
NY, Box 363 Village Station, New York, NY 10014, or brought to
a regular fun run, no later than May 15, 1983. All the checks
will then be delivered by Front Runners NY to GMHC.
Be sure to bring this form with you to the run.

GREETINGS FELLOW TORCHBEARERS!!!
I must apologize for taking so long to get back in touch with you
but there have been complications with Tom Waddell having nothing
to do with diminishing your historical participation, but rather
requiring the postage from my pocket to get this out to you.
Since
I now have a job, that's alot easier ...
ANYRATE! I hope you all had wonderful holidays and are looking for
only the finest in 1983.
I have enclosed a complete listing of all those who participated in
our First National Torch Run. Please check to make sure your name
is there, spelled correctly and the right mileage (My diary is something else to try and read) . If there are errors please let me
know, I will correct.
I had told you that the Gay Olympic Garnes had planned to acknowlege
your participation by citation and T-shirt, it appears neither will
develop.
I must apologize again for this but when I left San
Francisco it was my understanding that this was true. It seems that
while we were pounding the highways and byways of America alot of
things were changing their minds in Baghdad-by-the-Bay.
I have another idea which I hope you will find just as rewarding
as the T-Shirt idea.
Here it is:
Many of you commented during the run that you would liked to have
known what happened before your participation and after. I think it
would be a great idea if each of you would jot a short couple of
paragraphs about your experience: the personal gratification you
felt by your participation, maybe include a couple of humorous or
interesting bits of business about what happened during your run/
bicycle time.
I will compile all of these personal notes and
ad my own continuing thread throughout and will send you the finished
copy. Also, if any of you have photos, please send me copies
including captions as to who is who and I will try and include in
our story. Let's set a deadline of April 1, 1983 and I will try
to get the finished product back to you by June 13, 1983, the first
anniversary of the starting date for our torch run. I think this
might be more meaningful than a T-shirt.
Let me know what you think.
Again, enjoy the enclosed becuase you made it all happen.
I hope
your memories are as enjoyable as mine.
I think of you all often.
Hope to hear from you soon. Until then, I remain
Your friend
