BENEFIT RUN
Saturday , October 13, 1984, 10:00 AM
Sponsore d by Front Runners NY
NOTE TO SPONSORS: This Benefit Run is being sponsore d by FRNY to raise
money for various organiza tions in our communi ty. All money pledged will
be distribu ted to one or more of the organiza tions that you select from
the list below. Your check is to be made out directly to the organiza tion
you select, & you may take the tax deductio n where appropr iate, so please
be as generous as you can. The runner will collect your pledge from you
as soon as possible after the run.
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE RUNNER: Each runner is asked to get as many sponsors
as possible to pledge a specific amount of money per mile run. The
distance run during the run, multipli ed by the pledged amount per mile,
will determin e each sponsor 's donation . Of course, the more people you
sign up as sponsors , & the more miles you run, the larger the total amount
raised. You can ask friends, relative s, co-work ers & even yourself to
pledge. You can leave the choice of the organiz ations, made from the list
below, to each sponsor, or you can suggest that you would like the money
to go to one or more of your choice. The determin ation of how many, &
which organiza tion or organiza tions you choose, is up to you & your sponsors .
The run will start in Central Park at 10:00 AM from Tavern On the Green,
67th St & Central Park West. The distance you run is optional but,
obvious ly, the more the better. There is no minimum or maximum mileage
or time, so the run is open to all, from beginner s on. The runners &
spectato rs will picnic after the run in the Sheep Meadow, so bring
somethin g to eat. If, for some reason, you can't make it that day, you
can still particip ate by telling your sponsors that you are doing your
run on another day.
You are responsi ble for collecti ng all of your pledges after the run.
Checks should be made out directly to the organiza tions selected , not
to Front Runners NY. When you have collecte d all your pledges, either
mail them, along with this form, to the club address, or you may bring
them to any fun run. Do not mail them to the organiza tions. All checks
will then be sorted & distribu ted to the appropr iate organiza tions by
FRNY. Please try to collect your pledges as quickly as possible .

RUNNING CLINIC
The purpose of the clinic is to help and encourage participants to
improve their running technique, style and race pace. The clinics
will be conducted every Thursday at 7PM for ten weeks.
We will meet at one of two places, Tavern-on-the-Green or the lobby
of New York Road Runners (9 Eaat 89 Street), as listed after the date
of each workout.
It will be important that all attending report to the
meeting spot and NOT to the place of the workout as Bob
Glover uses the same areas and it may be necessary to
make a last minute change in the workout.
Each clinic will last approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
We will stretch before and after the workout; This is an important
part of running. Most injuries happen because we allow ourselves
to become inflexible. Also the stretching is a part of the workout
in that it warms up the muscles preparing them for the workout and
the balance of the warm up is a jog to the workout course. (NOTE:
Dancers never perform without a warm up session and runners should
do likewise.)

We will stretch both before and after the workout; this is a very

injuries within the Front Runners and I venture to say that most
either do not stretch at all or not enough.
