For Health's Sake! Since 1978, Avon has been an avid supporter of women's running, encouraging all
women to make fitness a top priority in their lives. This year, Avon is back on the circuit with their

WHERE ARE YOUR
MANNERSit
Oh me. oh my! It does appear that a few of our race
participants went AWOL from Miss Gazelle's
Finishing School! For all of those dropouts. here are
the class notes.

Dapper Dan and Dressy Bessy
You don' t need to don sassy white gloves or threepeak hankies. You don't even need to put your
napkin on your lap. Bibs, though ... you do need
we~r your ra~e bib. And wear it properly. Properiy,
in this case, can be defined as: pinned securely at all
four corners (preferably to clothing as opposed 111
your skin) in the front-and-center of your torso.

For all of you who have said (probably more than once). "I should really take advantage of the culture
in this city," you're absolutely right! You really should. And the NYRRC is happy to help with theTDP'
Museum Run, treating all runners to a goody bag packed with invitations, coupons, and announcements
of cultural opportunites not to be missed! So, stop talking about it-get out there and cultivate!

Saturday, June /3
POWERBAR 8 FLAVOR BK*

Translated . . . the bib belongs, not on your head, not
on your hat, not on your shoes or your sock or your
back. Some friendly advice to consider when
pinning your bib: If you plan on stripping off the
piece of clothing on which your bib is pinned, plan
on repinning your bib to that under layer.
Be forewarned: In the event that your bib is

At your service, Power Bar will be serving energy hors d'oeuvres to make this 8K "team event" a piece
of cake. It 's flavor vs. tlavor vying for victory, so don't forget to wear your race t-shirt for easy team
identification. (It helps to know thine enemy.)

improperly placed or if it is bent or crumpled, you
risk disqualification. The numbers must be clearly
visible and the bar code intact.

CLINIC #6: CROSSTRAINING AT CHELSEA PIERS

Delusional Positioning
At Miss Gazelle's Flllishing School, we instruct our students
to line up in a courteous and orderly fashion. If you clock an
eight- or nine-minute mile. pletlSe don't position yourself 31
the five-minute mile rrorlcers. Sure, you'll be ahead of the
traffic jam, but later you'll be cursing (under your breath,
we hope) the runners hipping on your heels. Put yourself
in thai hipper's shoes . . . thai poor soul has been elbowed to
the back and now has to go through the trouble of tripping
you just to run his/her nonnal pace. Go ahead, shed a tear
for the hipper.

Enhance your running .. . by 110t running. Huh ? Is this some sort of bizarre paradox ? Stop worrying,
get your gear on, and come dressed to work out at this active, enlightening Crosstraining clinic. Learn
which alternate activities can benefit running and give them a try at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers.

Enough with the ties and cuft1inks, sign your dad up for this four-mile run and take him out for a

occasion.

nor a game of Red Rover.
A Gazelle Fashion (and Safety) "Don't"

At Miss Gazelle's Finishing School, we raise our
snouts to walkmans. If it is an absolute must in your
run, then at least keep the volume low so that you can
hear runners trying to pass or potential announcements .
Comment from the Dean
So, you say rules are made to be broken? We say
rules are made for a reason I In fairness, perhaps our
runners just aren't aware of either the rules or these
reasons . NYRRC race rules are necessary so our
races will be safe, accurate and organized . So, if the
shoe fits , then, Miss Gazelle says, "Wear it, honey."
Have a great race!
Note: Miss Gazelle's Finishing School will not now
or ever be accepting applications. However, her
etiqtlette has not been paiented and can. therefore.
