How about the current Frontrunners with more new members! The club has so much to offer, but can do more to let GLBT people in the larger community know - so we 1ve come up with an ideaS it 1s called Sunday Membership Outreach Runs. This will be a new fun run that will be added to the calendar each week. Sundays at noon we 1ll gather outside the 3BIG CUP2 on 8th Avenue between 21st and 22nd St. - in our uniforms - for a casual run through the streets of Chelsea and the Village. Covering 3 miles or maybe 4, we 1ll chat and jog in the most visible of ways, before returning to 8th avenue to have a Sunday brunch together. TEAM NY'S 5TH ANNUAL "COUNTDOWN TO THE GAMES" COCKTAIL PARTY AND AWARDS CEREMONY THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2005 On Thursday, May 5th, 2005, Team NY will be hosting its 5th annual "Countdown to the Games" Cocktail Party and Awards Ceremony at Heaven, 579 Sixth Avenue (at 17 Street) from six to eight pm. With less than 2 years remaining till the Gay Games (Chicago) and Outgames (Montreal) in the summer 2006, Team New York is hoping to encourage more local athletes and artists to register for one or both of these international sports and cultural events. At our party, we will launch the Team New York Uniform Fund. The proceeds of this fund will be used to subsidize the cost of Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms for all Team New York members. Those photo albums you've seen on the table at our Saturday runs have tons of pictures which we're asking everyone to look through when you can. If you know whom the people or the event was in the picture, please stick a post it note on it with the info. Because we're going to be using these pictures to produce a multimed ia CD in 2004 which will showcase our dub's history in pictures along with comment ary which we'll distribute free of charge to all our members . We'll use them in the goody bags for the 2004 Pride Run in June and also as a handy promotio nal tool for Front Runners. FRNY will also be exploring the publishin g business this year, as we assemble and publish a yearbook of our 25tb year combined with profiles of our past presidents. Through out the year, we'll be everywhe re taking photos to include in the book, so don't be shy if you see a shutterbu g making the rounds with us. We hope to have the book fmished and printed in time for the 2005 Awards Dinner in January of that year and it will be given to all dues paid members . Don't forget the upcoming Award's Dinner on January 31st. The dinner promises to be a great kick otT to our 25th year. As well as recognizing the achievements of our members in 2003, we'll be taking a little walk down memory lane to show you how rich and varied our history is with a special presentat ion. In late spring of next year, the Third Annual Variety Show will be a star studded line up of talent from both within and outside the Front Runner ranks. We're working on expandin g the performa nce space to a real theatre environm ent to give a ' different flavor to the show, which this year will help to benefit our Charitab le Foundati on. These are just a few things to look forward to as we head towards the big 25. Other plans will be announce d before the end of this year as we finalize them, so be on the lookout for future announce ments. We will soon be setting up an online group to handle all the business of the 25th anniversa ry. As you can well imagine by this time, there's a lot to do next year that requires assistance and input from YOU, the individua l, who makes ·our club what it is. Last Sunday the blue, orange and white FRNY jerseys could be seen at two races. At the NYRR Niketown Run for the Parks 27 Front Runners competed in this race. The Men's Open placed 3rd overall winning medals for Rich Velazquez, Kelsey, Rob Lennon, Steve Vizena and Barry Abrams. Rich was the first FRNY male and Julie Delaurier the first FRNY female. Rich was 5th in his age group, Julie was 11th in her age group, and Steve was 3rd in his age group. It looks like some time off this winter really worked for Barry. Dennis Giza ran another pr this year, and so did Les Jones. Other women in the race include Ellen Valente, Wendy Verona, Debra Chapnick and Joan Martinez. Over at JFK airport, 6 Front Runners competed in the JFK 5K where the team had a great showing. Kevin Brewer finished 3rd overall, Mark Ansell 5th, Mike Benjamin 1Oth. All three placed in their age groups, as did Jeff Werner. Also representing the team that morning was Bernd Erpenbeck and Matt Kilkelly. Sunday morning also found Dave Pitches and Bob Nelson in Orchard Beach racing in the Bronx Biathlon (run 3 miles, bike 20 miles, run 3 miles); both showed strong finishes, with Dave coming in 3rd in his age group. Monday was the 109th running of the Boston Marathon, and 7 Front Runners were there representing the club. Congratulations to Bryce Wunder (3:17:58), Robert Williams (3:36:36), Robert Dally (3:37:05), Richard Blanchette (3:43:31), Loraine Simunek (3:50:04), Richard Ervais (3:50:13) and Yvonne Bock (4:03:53), who completed the very difficult course in very warm conditions! And this Sunday is a Points Race for men and women!! The Thomas G. Lebrecque Classic 4 Miler will start on Central Park's 72nd Street Transverse at Bethesda Terrace at 9:00am.
