THE STEVE GERBEN AWARD
Steve Gerben has a unique place in Front Runner history. While
the demands of being president of one of the largest gay and
lesbian athletic clubs in the world tires out most mere
mortals by the end (if not the middle) of a calendar year,
Gerben led Front Runners for an astoundi-Ag five consecutive
terms. He grew the club from a 35-member informal gang of
runners in January, 19 81, to a 400+-member force to be reckoned with in the New York City running scene by the end of his
last term in 1985. Though his overdeveloped sense of modesty
would prevent him from saying it, Gerben laid the foundation
for so many of the club's successes-and he did so during a
tumultuous time for gays in New York. After visiting San
Francisco in the early 80s and witnessing its Pride Run, he
tackled organizing a similar event in Central Park. Despite
naysayers and Parks Department obstacles, Gerben and a
fleet of loyal members put on an event that is still recalled
fondly. The tradition lives on this year with the 26th running
of the Front Runner NY Lesbian and Gay Pride Run. Gerben and
his partner, Bob Buckley, now split time between New York and
Florida, but he still supports the club at Saturday runs and
makes it to the Pride Run whenever he can.
This year the club is bestowing the inaugural Steve Gerben
award to the first male and female FRNY finishers. By doing so,
we hope to bridge the club's rich past with the promise of its
future. FRNY would like to take this opportunity to thank
Steve Gerben for creating a home for gay and lesbian athletes
of all shapes, sizes, speeds and abilities.

THE MJ:CKEY lACUTO AWARD
The Mickey Zacuto award is given to the first Front Runners
New York male and female master runners (age 40+) in the five
mile race. This award has been endowded by Mickey's family in
graditude for the love and support she recieved from Front
Runners throughout most of her adult life. Mickey was a true
activist, as well as a member of FRNY from 1983 til her sudden
death in 1993. FRNY fondly remembers her as one of the club's
most supportive members as well as its general conscience.

FRNY CHARITABLE fOUNDATION
Founded in 1993 to provide goods, services and financial aid
to those suffering from AIDS, cancer and other debilitating
conditions, the Charitable Foundation of Front Runners
New York continues to play a vital role for people in crisis
throughout New York City. Throughout the year, the
Charitable Foundation considers entreaties from those in
need and selects worthy recipients for various types of aid.
The Foundation's big annual event comes each December
when it sponsors a group or organization in need for the
Community Holiday Wish Baskets Program. In the past, this
program has, among other things, given homeless men living
with AIDS hygiene kits so that they could better care for'
themselves. A wide range of noble causes have been served
by the FRNY Charitable Foundation, and by donating a portion
of the proceeds from this year's race to the Foundation,
Front Runners seeks to keep its mission alive and well.

fROM THE RACE DIRECTOR
Welcome to the 26th Annual Front Runners New York Pride
Run. For 25 years the runners of New York city have gathered
together every 4th Sunday in June to help FRNY celebrate
Pride weekend by running 5 miles together in Central Park.
Our partnership with New York Road Runners and the Parks
Department has made this possible. We thank all of you for
helping us to continue this tradition.
We'd like to thank Mary Wittenberg and the staff at New York
Road Runners for their commitment to helping make this race
professional, safe and fun. Putting on a race isn't what it
used to be, and no organization does it better than NYRR.
Their support has helped to make the FRNY Pride Run the
largest LGBT road race in the country. In particular, we'd like
to thank Annie loo, for helping us keep it all organized and
on schedule, and for putting up with the pesky one.
We'd like to welcome and thank our new official sponsor,
Continental Airlines. We also thank our returning sponsors:
Super Runners Shop and Crunch Fitness. Gary Murhcke of Super
Runners has been a long time friend of FRNY. Thanks, Gary.
We thank the FRNY membership for their continued support,
both financially and as volunteers. The Pride Run is a tradition that all in the club cherish and honor. This year we're
honoring the founder of the race by naming an award for the
first female and male FRNY finishers, the Steve Gerben Award.
We've had a couple of fun club fundraisers too. Thanks to Joe
Plutz for organizing our Last Thursday Social Night at Gym
Sports Bar and to Mark Gilrain, Rob Lennon, Dash and Ephraim
Gilrain-lennon for opening their home to the membership for
the Mimosa Madness Sunday Brunch.
Thanks to Katrina Amaro for our Pride Run logo, singlet
design and advertising copy. Thanks also to Audra Farrell for
designing this program, and to Ted Paszek for the photographs. A special thanks to Joe, Mike, Rob, Kelsey, Alex and
Cenk for their support, help and friendship. Good times!
Happy Pride Day everyone.

Dear Fellow RunnersOn behalf of the membership
of Front Runners New York,
thank you for supporting the
26th Annual lesbian and Gay
Pride Run. This year's race
looks to be our largest to
date, and we appreciate
everyone's support and hope
you have a great run.
Thanks to all who've worked
so hard to make this year's
Pride Run such a great
success. In particular, I'd like
to thank our Pride Run race director, Michael Orzechowski,
whose energy and dedication to this race and to the club is
appreciated by so many. Also thanks to Mark Gilrain and Rob
Lennon for hosting a fundraising brunch, Cenk Bulbul and
Alex Kristofcak for their outreach, and to Joe Plutz for
organizing a fundraiser at Gym Bar. And of course, thanks
to all of the board for their devotion to FRNY throughout
the year: Katrina Amaro, Rob Lennon, Cenk Bulbul, Alex
Kristofcak, Andrew Butler, and Ryan Singer.
2007 has been an exciting year for the club. The women's
team continues to grow with an influx of new membership,
and the team continues to be competitive. The men
continue to have success in the NYRR point's series, and
have more young runners than ever. Our Master and
Veteran's teams are among the most competitive in the
city. The membership is more active and dedicated at our
workouts and fun runs, and membership remains higher
than ever. Under Coach Kelsey Louie's guidance, members
continue to reach personal bests. We also have a large
number of members participating as cyclists and triathletes .
In 2008, FRNY will host the International Front Runner
Games , which features athletic competition and social

events for gay and lesbian athletes from around the world.
FRNY will also host our annual cross country meet early this
fall at Van Cortlandt Park, and next spring will again sponsor our popular indoor track meet at the Armory. To learn
more about our club and all the activities we offer, visit
our website at FRNY.org.
And finally, thanks to this year's sponsors of the 2007
Pride Run; Crunch Fitness, Super Runners Shop, and especially, this year's premier sponsor, Continental Airlines.
Without the help of our great sponsors, along with the
individual contributions of our members, this great event
would not be possible.
Happy Pride, Everyone!
