Armory Indoor Track Workouts WEEKLY WORKOUT
Schedule change for this week: Feb 4 th and 6th
Sorry about another change of workout plans! I hope you can join us!
On tues Feb 4th we will meet in Central Park, at 7pm at the 72nd St transverse where Fun
Run meets. Bag drop is available at NYSC on 73rd St between CPW and Columbus Ave. You’ll
need a guest pass. Contact Coach Mike, if you haven’t already, to get your guest pass.
Lockers are available.
Tuesday Night at the Races with NYRR HAS BEEN MOVED TO THURSDAY FEB 6th. Meet
starts at 7pm. ALL ability levels are encouraged to participate and usually do!
Tuesday: we’ll jog a mile warmup, stretch and then run a 2 mile "time trial" (a 90%
effort run) around the lower loop of the park. After a 5 min jog recovery, we’ll
run 6x 400 meters on the road around the lower loop.
Thursday: NYRR Thurs Night at the Races.
If you are planning on competing, you should arrive and change before 6:45pm to
give yourself enough time to check in, warm up, and stretch before your race.
If you have questions about the Night at the Races, please contact Coach Mike at
coach@frny.org
Events: 800 meters, 5000 meters (25 laps), 3000 meters (15 laps)
Optional workout: if you can’t make it to the track: start and end with a 10-15 min jog
warmup and cooldown.
Run 2x (2 min pickup + 1 min jog + 1 min pickup + 1 min jog) After a 3 min jog recovery,
run 3x (1 min pickup + 1 min jog rest) The pickups should be 5K pace or effort with an
easy jog or walk in between. These should NOT be ALL OUT.

A Note from the Race Directors Pride Run Brunch
Join us for the 2014 Pride Run Brunch THIS Sunday, June 15, 2014
�from 10:00am to 2:00pm!
Catered by Matt Tivy and Soleil Catering and held in the home of Rosario Gennaro and
Alex Gardner (520 West 150th Street), this year’s Pride Run Brunch will be nothing short
of spectacular.Door prizes to include tickets to AVP’s Fusion Event, a Picky Bars sample
pack, an FRNY Jacket, and more! Buy your tickets here! Buy your
ticket before Thursday at 5PM and you’ll be entered to win a $50 Jackrabbit gift
card! You’ll also be helping us get a better headcount for catering. ;-) We’ll
announce the winner at the Brunch! Proceeds from the Brunch help to put on the race and
also supports our beneficiary, the NYC Anti-Violence Project. Tech Shirt Sneak Peak
Those who are registered will be receiving this summer’s hottest race swag -- this
year’s sleeveless tech tee will feature an orange side panel and the logo below,
designed by our very own Kent Lau!
What If I Still Am Not Registered for the Race?
If you are one of the few who planned to run, but forgot to register before the race
sold out, we are judging you. Just kidding -- and you may not be out of luck just yet.
Because the Pride Run is a points race, there may be an option that can help get you in
to the race. If this is you, and you know who you are, email the race captains ASAP
for details. A Note from the Race Directors
If you aren’t planning to run but will be in New York, consider cheering! Your
fellow Front Runners would appreciate the show of support--it’s always great to see a
smiling face on the course.

Welcome to the FRNY Beginners Clinic
The purposes of this clinic are to welcome newcomers to FRNY and provide an easy
transition into running. Over this next year, we will take several steps to ensuring

Coach workouts that are led by Coach Mike. These workouts are tailored to runners of all
levels and his expertise will help ensure faster development and better results for
beginners and more experienced runners alikeInformational Sessions- When it comes to
taking up an activity, knowledge is power. By leveraging the expertise of our existing
FRNY members, we will be providing education from nutrition to running gear and
techKeeping it Social- FRNY is a great place to meet new people. The Beginners Clinic
will participate in the weekly fun runs and help match up runners of all paces and
levels. We may even have a beginners brunch or two
This Saturday, 3/8, we will go through our usual stretching routine and participate in
the weekly fun run. As always, meet us at 9:45am at Rutgers Church or at 10am in
the park (W 72nd- just south of the Webster statue). Steven V., our resident stretching
coordinator, will be leading a stretch at 9:45 at the church and we will be heading to
the park from there. Contact Jonathan Schneiderman and John Carroll if you
have any questions.

Welcome to the FRNY Beginners Clinic
We will not be having a formal clinic this week. However, Steven V., our resident
stretching instructor, will be hosting the weekly stretching session
at 9:30am (Rutgers church). At 10am, the group will meet in the park (W
72nd, just south of the Webster statue) to introduce new runners and go for the run. We
encourage you to meet new people and pair up with similarly paced runners. Have a great
time and see you the 29th when we will be participating in the coached workout!

the Saturday Coached Workout with Coach Mike Keohane . As always, meet us at
9:45am at Rutgers Church or at 10am in the park (W 72nd St. just

Welcome to the FRNY Beginners Clinic
Hello!
Spring has finally sprung and we could not ask for a better forecast for the weekend.
The Beginners Clinic will be meeting this Saturday, April 5th, to participate in the fun
run. As always, join us at 9:45am at Rutgers Church or at 10am in the park (W 72ndjust south of the Webster statue). Steven V., our resident stretching coordinator, will
be leading a stretch at the park. Runners of all paces are welcome to join us!
This Saturday is also the Scotland Run 10K so there will be a very special brunch after
the fun run and race hosted by our very own Matt Tivy. Make sure to bring your running
gear and your appetite!
Finally, we are so excited to announce the start of our informational series, in which
more experienced runners share their knowledge and experience with members of the
clinic. Join us NEXT SATURDAY,April 12th, after announcements for an introductory
session to the clinic given by David Pitches and David Lin. Hope to see you all there!

session will be a great introduction to FRNY and will answer any questions you may have

Welcome to the FRNY Beginners Clinic
Let’s go SHOPPING!
This Saturday, April 19th, Coach Mike will be leading a trip to the JackRabbit running
store (140 W 72nd street), after the post-brunch announcements. This shopping adventure
is meant to help runners find the right shoes for their individual needs- come find the
right fit! As a special courtesy to FRNY members, JackRabbit will be providing you with
double reward-points for all purchases made! As for the run this Saturday, Coach Mike is
at it again! He will be leading his Coached Workout with a focus on running hills and
maintaining good form. As always, the Beginners Clinic will participate in the Coached
Workout and will be meeting at 9:45am at Rutgers Church or at 10am in the park to
participate. Steven V. will be starting us off with a stretch at the park.

Hello Beginners Clinic Members!We have a very exciting Saturday ahead of
us! Not only is the weather going to be beautiful, we also have an informational series
double feature! This Saturday, May 3rd, the Beginners Clinic will be participating in a
Saturday Coached Workout with our FRNY Coach, Mike Keohane. Workouts cater to runners of
all levels from the new runner to the experienced. This week, we will have a short
internal workout, and as always Mike will be offering tips on how you can run better and
faster! After the Saturday announcements, Coach Mike will be discussing the outdoor
training schedule and Miles Harter will be talking about the importance of proper

Hi Beginners!
As temperatures climb up to the low 70’s this Saturday, the Beginners Clinic will be
participating in the Fun Run. As always, we will be meeting at 9:45am at Rutgers Church
or at 10am in the park (W 72nd- just south of the Webster statue). Steven V, our
resident stretching coordinator, will be leading a stretch at the church for all those
interested.
Our Informational Series continues this Saturday! Join us after announcements for a
session on Clothing and Running Gear, given by our very own cross-fit expert, Mike
Terry. Mike will be sharing some of his experiences, and most importantly discussing
"What NOT to Wear" when heading out for a run... Hope to see you all there!
Coached workouts for runners of all levels will be held on the following Saturdays with
Coach Mike during the Fun Run at 10am. We’ll meet beforehand at Rutgers Church at 9:45

weekend (especially after that informational session with Mike!). This Saturday is
the Brooklyn Half Marathon, one of the most popular races in NYC, and we encourage you
to come out to Coney Island to cheer and celebrate with fellow team members. In addition

Hello Beginners!
Our Beginners Clinic informational series continues after announcements this Saturday
with a session on "What to do with your legs when you’re not running." Some days you
won’t want to run, but you don’t have to stand still. Matt Frank will introduce massages
and stretches that can help your legs recover, as well as exercises to strengthen
muscles in your legs and feet. We will discuss cross-training that can build aerobic
capacity while being gentle on your knees, to help your running even on your off days.
Rumor has it, there will also be a small gift item for all those who show up! This
weekend, the clinic will be participating in the Fun Run. As always, meet up at the
church at 9:45am or in the park (W 72nd, just south of the Webster statue) at 10am. Our
stretching coordinator, Steven V, will be leading a stretch at the church for all those
interested. With only 5 weeks left before the FRNY Pride Run, it’s time to get some
miles under your belts. We hope to see you all there! Also, don’t forget to register for
the pride run! You can register at FRNY.org/pride-run. The race is June 28th and usually

I hope everyone has been putting that marble from last weeks information session to good
use.
With the FRNY Pride Run only 4 weeks away, remember to sign up for the Pride Run! This
week, our Front Runner of the Year, Steve Waldon will be leading an informational
session on how to strategize your running on race days this week. We will be discussing
proper pacing, achieving realistic goals, and how to keep yourself moving when the
finish line is nowhere in sight. The session will take place at the church after
announcements. All are welcome to attend!

It’s Pride month so onLy a few more weeks before you need to look your Pride-season
best!This Saturday, the Beginners Clinic will be participating in the Fun Run. Please
join our resident Stretching Coordinator, Steven V, for a stretch at the Church at
9:45am, or just come meet us in the park at 10am.After Saturday announcements there will
be a special informational session on Injury Prevention and Recovery. The session will
be offered by NYSportsMed’s resident running expert, Francis Diano, and by Director of
Physical Therapy, Jonathan Jezequel. They will be discussing how to prevent injury while
on the run, and how to minimize the amount of control an injury will have over your
training. All are welcome!

Hi Beginners!
This week we will be participating in the coached workout. Meet at 9:45 at the church or
10:00 at the park at 72nd st just south of the Daniel Webster statue.Drumroll
please.....We are having our final information session this week! With a single week to
go till the Pride Run, we will be concluding our informational series with a clinic on
Long Distance Running, given by our resident expert, Zander Ross. Long distance running
can (and should!) be fun, without compromising your racing goals! We will be discussing
the importance of listening to your body so that you make the right choices when out on
a long run. We encourage everyone to come join us for this special last session of the

HAPPY PRIDE!
You all know what pride means! It’s time to get a little wild! As in, get those couple
extra hours of sleep, say no to that second cocktail, and stay in and take it easy this
weekend! Once a year you get to celebrate the PRIDE RUN! Let’s make it count. We are
very fortunate to have Coach Mike leading a 9 minute pace group for the run.
Anyone interested in running with the 9 minute/mile group should plan on being on the
bike path on the west side of the corrals at 8am, near the traffic light (this should be
at around 97th street). Mike will have a group sign, many runners will be wearing FRNY
singlets, and rumor has it that there may be some balloons involved.
Once you’ve successfully conquered the race, stick around for a FRNY group photo and
check out the post-race event at Boxers HK!

for all of the Brooklyn Pride events tomorrow (Saturday)! Brooklyn Pride 5k
This year’s Brooklyn Pride LGBT 5k Run is sold out! The race will be at 10am
tomorrow in Prospect Park. FRNY is excited to co-sponsor this year’s race, which
features electronic timing by NYC Runs, tech t-shirts and custom engraved Brooklyn Pride
Run finisher medals for all runners, and prizes for top
finishers. Contact race co-directors Steve Waldon and Dan Ferguson with any
questions. Brooklyn Pride Festival
After the race, there will be a festival along 5th Avenue between 3rd and 9th Streets.
FRNY will have a booth, so come on out to meet and greet potential new Front Runners. We
have volunteer slots from 11am-2pm and from 2pm-5pm. Click here to sign up. Brooklyn
Pride Parade
At 7:30pm, the Brooklyn Pride Parade starts down 5th Avenue from Lincoln Place. Come a
little early to join in the fun! Post-Parade Party
Front Runner and Brooklynite Mike Grzelecki is hosting a Post-Brooklyn Pride
Parade Party at his place on 670 President Street, Apt. 3C, from 8-11pm. Mike’s
apartment is just a few blocks north of the finish of the Parade. Bring your favorite
beverage or snack to share. Questions?

Sunday Runs in Prospect Park! We know that some people have trouble getting
back to Brooklyn after work on Tuesdays, and some Tuesday runners want another
opportunity to run with the group. We’re listening! Starting THIS SUNDAY, we’ll be
having weekly runs in Prospect Park.
We’ll meet on Sunday mornings at the 3rd Street entrance to Prospect Park, have
introductions, and head out for a run at 10am. We’ll probably find a brunch spot for

Now that summer weekends are ending, it’s a great opportunity to run with the group.
We meet on Sunday mornings at the 3rd Street entrance to Prospect Park, have

year to earn a FRNY race credit for the FRNY Participation Awards. The event is
sponsored by JackRabbit Sports, who will be providing a water station at the

Doebele Long-time Brooklyn Front Runner Peter Doebele is moving -- only as
far as Chelsea, but he has been a steadfast presence at our Tuesday runs for over 25
years. We’d like to celebrate his move at Berg’n, the new beer garden in Crown Heights,
from 7-9 PM on October 30. Tuesday Fun Runs
Continuing with tradition, we meet at the 3rd Street and Prospect Park West
entrance to Prospect Park for a run every Tuesday night at 7PM; the run starts at about
7:15. Those needing a bag drop can stop by JackRabbit at 7th Avenue & Garfield
Place. (Note that the store closes at 8pm.) Sunday Fun Runs Cancelled
Sunday fun runs in Prospect Park have been cancelled. We may start them up again in the

Armory Indoor Track Workouts No Armory Workout on Thursday January
30
Instead we will be running a hill workout in Central Park at 7pm. Thanks to Mike Luster,
the manager at New York Sports Club and FRNY member, everyone who signs up
here http://bit.ly/1fcLvAa will receive a guest pass to the NYSC on West 73rd
St near Central Park West. There is a locker room to change and lockers, please bring a
lock.
We will meet at 7pm on the 72nd St transverse, same spot as the Saturday morning Fun
Run, run a 1 mile warmup jog, stretch and then off to the hills nearby.
While we’re on the subject:
Armory Update for February: No Indoor workouts on 2/11, 2/13, 2/18, 2/20 & 2/25
On these nights in February, we will be guests of NYSC again and they will need your
info for these dates as well. If you sign up at the link above, you are signed up for
all of the nights.

Do you want to be more involved with FRNY but something is holding you back? Next Friday
March 14 at 7:00pm is an opportunity to share your suggestions over pizza. The
event will be held at the Upper Refectory at Union Theological Seminary at 3041 Broadway
at West 120th Street.
We want to your feedback. What do you enjoy most about the club? What could be improved?
Maybe you’re a fair weather runner who spends winters in the gym. Perhaps you trained
for your big race last year and haven’t continued. Or you have less time than you used
to due to changes with family, work, or school but you want the time you spend with
Front Runners to count. You might not even be a member yet and are curious to see what
the club has to offer. Whatever your reason, we’re here to listen!
This event is open to members and non-members alike. More active members are welcome to
actively listen at this event.

Front Runners New York P.O. Box 230087 New York, NY 10023 Potluck Picnic
After the Fun Run To kick off Brooklyn Pride week, Tuesday June 10th, we will be hosting
an extra special Brooklyn Fun Run complete with a potluck picnic in the park. Bring all
your friends and a dish and beverage to share, we will have food watchers / back drop in
the park while you go out and run the course.
As a reminder, Brooklyn fun runs meet beginning around 7pm on Tuesdays at the 3rd Street
and Prospect Park West, then we have introductions and head out at 7:15. Most people do
one loop of the park, and we often head out to dinner in Park Slope afterward.
Brooklyn Pride 5k Register for this year’s Brooklyn Pride LGBT 5k Run, at
10am Saturday, June 14 in Prospect Park. This race will likely sell out this week,
so make sure to sign up. FRNY is excited to co-sponsor this year’s race, which features
electronic timing by NYC Runs, tech t-shirts and custom engraved Brooklyn Pride Run
finisher medals for all runners, and prizes for top finishers. Contact race
co-directors Steve Waldon and Dan Ferguson with any questions. Brooklyn Pride Festival
After the race, there will be a festival along 5th Avenue between 3rd and 9th Streets.
FRNY will have a booth, so come on out to meet and greet potential new Front Runners. We
have volunteer slots from 11am-2pm and from 2pm-5pm. Click here to sign up. Brooklyn
Pride Parade
At 7:30pm, the Brooklyn Pride Parade starts down 5th Avenue from Lincoln Place. Come

Front Runner and Brooklynite Mike Grzelecki is hosting a Post-Brooklyn Pride
Parade Party at his place on 670 President Street, Apt. 3C, from 8-11pm. Mike’s
apartment is just a few blocks north of the finish of the Parade. Bring your favorite
beverage or snack to share. Questions?
